I have had a best friend since the 6th grade, her name is Emily Periard Petrovich...and she is expecting her first baby this Spring! There is nothing I love more than fashion and giving women the opportunity to look and feel their best. I think this is SO important especially when you're pregnant, finding ways to make yourself comfortable and stay stylish for 9 months isn't always easy but we have a few tricks up our sleeve! When Emily told me the news I knew we had to to do a "Dress the Bump" styling session and put it on the blog. Emily stopped in the store last week and she worked with our store manager Emily #2 (lol) I am going to let Emily #1 take it from here...
"Athalia's is my favorite boutique to shop, hands down (and not just because my beautiful and talented best friend is the owner!) It's such a gem of a place! It's always so exciting to see the beautiful things that Jacqueline picks for the shop and the beautiful way the stylists put it all together."
"When I reached the 22 week mark of pregnancy and my baby bump made it's official debut, I knew where I was going to find some new clothing items and accessories to 'dress the bump!' My goal was to find staple pieces that were both versatile and stylish without being traditional maternity' clothing -- I wanted to invest in pieces to wear during the pregnancy and after. When I asked Jacqueline about specific pieces that could grow with me, she and Emily got to work. I was so excited to see the items Emily had pulled -- and she did not disappoint!
Navy Quilted Vest, Long Bodied Plaid Button Down |
Long Bodied Plaid Button Down and Thin ADA Wrap Belt |
"She intuitively pulled super soft pieces that are also versatile, both of which are details that I'm come to learn are so important during pregnancy. Feeling beautiful and comfortable is key -- elements Athalia's always offers to their customers! I love how everything in the store looks and feels so expensive but is priced so reasonably. To showcase the versatility of the items, Emily created two looks for each 'staple' piece: the plaid shirt and the gray dress shirt."
"I lived in the long bodied plaid shirt throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and continue to wear it so often. The colors and pattern are rich and the fabric is lighter and softer than a traditional flannel, so I don't feel overheated in it, even with the quilted navy vest on. I wish I had one of these ADA Belts in every color! There are no metal pieces that may uncomfortably poke a baby bump and the leather is super soft and flexible. Emily showed me some of the many ways to wear these belts and they pair perfectly with so many things in my closet, from shirts to jackets to dresses and beyond."
Mercury Beaded Jacket and Faux Suede Babydoll Dress |
"I'm not sure how to accurately describe the luxuriousness of the grey shirt dress fabric... except to say that it is divine and I just want to wear it all the time! The Mercury Jacket is perfect for holiday parties and feeling fancy for any occasion. This piece is also so flowy and soft despite the sparkles... almost robe-like... it's so comfortable, feels like cheating!"
Windowpane Cape, Faux Suede Babydoll Dress and Wide Brim Burgundy Hat |
"The abstract windowpane cape offers a combination of a tailored look with all the freedom of movement you need, which will really come in handy when baby arrives. The red hat is a style seen on every fashion girl right now and I can see why! This accessory is so lovely and versatile and looks great with everything. Plus, it offers a chic option when your hair just isn't cooperating!"
Yosi Samra Flats in Black & Cognac |
"The Yosi Samra flats -- I could sing their praises all day. Leave it to Jacqueline to discover the best of the best! Flats are a must for pregnant ladies -- I'm not criticizing Kim Kardashian for her choice to wear heels during pregnancy but I've tried it and just. Can. Not. And awesome flats are surprisingly hard to find -- they're either too stiff, too low, too high, etc. Not these YS beauties! I was on my feet almost all day on Thanksgiving and these flats are both beautiful and comfortable -- the flexible band even adjusted to my feet swelling. I forgot I was wearing shoes! I love the black with the tan, too -- a classic color combination that matches everything."
"My experience with Emily as a stylist was awesome -- she just knew which pieces would work, which sizes to try, which ensembles to put together, and she was honest with me about which pieces were really working. She definitely kept all my identified goals top of mind! I highly recommend working with the girls at Athalia's for momma's-to-be -- their stylish instincts are especially helpful when dressing for your changing body type and the gorgeous pieces that the boutique is always well-stocked with are priced in a way that you only feel like you're totally spoiling yourself because everything looks and feels so expensive!"
Big thank you to Emily #1 for sharing her insight and bump with us and a HUGE thank you to Emily #2 for styling and photographing this shoot for us--you both rocked it!
